Just in time for the Florida-Georgia game, check out my latest essay in The SportScribe, “Lost at the Cocktail Party”

In what’s turning out to be a busy month for creative writing, I had another essay published this morning in The SportScribe, titled “Lost at the Cocktail Party,” just in time for the annual college football game it celebrates.

“Lost at the Cocktail Party” is a twisted college football tailgating true story that exhaults two of my favorite things in the world: The annual Florida-Georgia football weekend in Jacksonville (popularly known as the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party) and the Gonzo journalism of Hunter S. Thompson, whose style I sample shamelessly. In “Cocktail Party,” the season ticket holder, a lifelong Gator fan accustomed to the lubricated euphoria of Florida-Georgia tailgating, takes a new friend unaccustomed to SEC methods and means to the heart of the pre-game party. But somehow the friend gets lost in the madness and never makes it into the game. Will he ever find his way back to civilization and the real world?

The SportScribe is an online sports-themed literary magazine with “a special taste for the dark side of sports,” including “general vice/debauchery/depravity,” so this piece seems to have found a proper home. After selecting my essay, The SportScribe timed its publication of “Cocktail Party” to coincide with this weekend’s Florida-Georgia game (sorry, Georgia-Florida for you Bulldog fans). Sadly, the game is not in Jacksonville this weekend, but was moved to Atlanta because of renovations to EverBank Stadium.

Thank you, SportScribe!
